Theology of Place

  • Center City 123 S 17th St Philadelphia, PA, 19103 (map)

We design and occupy places to fulfill our needs. But places also influence us and shape the way we interact with our communities. Places preserve memories and emotions. They influence what we eat and how we dress. The Bible offers clear guidance on the ideal way for the Israelites to occupy their land, but what about us in our city today? How should we understand a theology of place? Join this four-session course to explore not only a biblical understanding of place but also different places in Philadelphia. This class will take place on Sundays Oct. 17, Oct. 24, Nov. 7, and Nov. 14 at 4:00pm.

We cannot adequately understand the influence place has on us until we go out and experience different places. This course is intentionally designed to get us in very different types of places. I strongly encourage you not to pick and choose the sessions that are the most convenient, because these are designed to build on each other — and the inconveniences or personal preferences are a part of the process!
